With a background in art, and an accomplished baker, Karen is an international award winning cake designer.
With a background in art, and an accomplished baker, Karen is an international award winning cake designer and a proud member of the Panel of Chefs of Ireland and the Northwest Culinary Team.
Known for her airbrushing skills, sculpted cakes and her unique approach to cake design she was awarded Gold, Best in Class and Best in Show at the Dublin Sugarcraft Guild Exhibition in 2014.
Her design for a wedding cake won a Gold medal at the prestigious Salon Culinaire at Hotelympia in London in 2014.
In November 2014 Karen entered Cake International in Birmingham, boasting the world’s largest display of competition pieces with over 1000 entries and came away with another Gold for her entry.
Karen started 2015 off on a great note winning yet another gold at Cake International in Manchester.
In February, Karen entered the Chef Ireland competition and came away with a Gold with Honours, the highest mark in the entire competition and went on to win the title of Senior Chef of the Year 2015.
In September 2015, Karen travelled to Orlando, Florida to represent Ireland in the Live Global Cake challenge competition, at the inaugural Americas Cake and Sugarcraft Fair, (hosted by Satin Ice). Team Ireland competed against 9 other countries, include USA, China and Italy. They won 1st place in the competition and became the Live Global Cake challenge champions 2015.
In November 2015, Karen returned to Cake International Birmingham and on this occasion both her entries were award Gold.
In 2017, Karen entered Cake International in Birmingham and came away with the award of Best in Show for her entry. In October Karen entered The Americas Cake Fair competition in Orlando, Florida. She won First in her class, which was the Professional Sculpted Cake category and was also awarded Best In Show.
In 2018, she won Gold and Best in Class at Salon Colinaire, IFEX
In 2019, Karen won 2 x gold and a Best in Class at salon Culinaire, Birmingham and Gold and best in Class at Soflo, USA
Karen has now become a senior judge at Cake International.
